Job Summary

Position Summary

Professional specialized in infection control. Coordinates infection control matters with other disciplines. Develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates a comprehensive infection control program for the hospital. Investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections in order to determine source and ensure control. Knows standard methods and criteria for identifying nosocomial infections. May assist employee health with exposures and illnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Detects, records, analyzes and reports hospital acquired infections.
  • Investigates infections, especially those occurring above established thresholds, and/or clusters among patients, analyzes and makes recommendations for correction.
  • Develops and presents Infection Control reports to appropriate personnel, medical staff, and appropriate committees.
  • Assists in implementing changes in hospital practice as mandated by regulatory/licensing agencies.
  • Completes the required documents and reports information to Industrial Commission for workman's compensation cases.
  • Coordinates infection control education for facility including new hires and annual updates.
  • Serves as a resource to employees, patients, visitors, community members, families and physicians in areas related to infection control.
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements
    • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or related health science.
    • Experience: 3 - 5 years clinical experience in acute care facility
    • Licensure/Certifications: Must be currently licensed, certified or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy. CPR. Must have National Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or obtain within 2 years of assuming the position.
    • Special Skills:
      • Ability to analyze, research data as related to transmission of infection.
      • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
      • Maintains a current knowledge of infection control trends/methodologies and Employee Health Practices as it applies
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Education: Academic degree in nursing (Bachelors or Master's degree) or related health science.
    • Experience:
      • 5 years nursing experience in acute care
      • 1-2 years nursing experience in infection control or epidemiology experience
